WHAT CAN I EXPECT MY FIRST TIME AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH?
We know it can be a little unnerving to step into a new thing, especially when you're not exactly sure about the details that matter to you. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the church to give you a picture of what FPC looks like week to week and hopefully address issues important to you.
WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE MAKE UP FPC?
What you'll encounter when you attend FPC is a community where people seek to know and love God, live in community with others and transform the world by serving our community as Christ would. Practically speaking, that means the some of us are just checking out Christianity for the first time, while others have been in church their whole lives. FPC attenders span all different ages and backgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
WHEN ARE YOUR SERVICES?
We have three services on Sunday mornings:
HOW LONG WILL THE SERVICE LAST?
All of our services are about an hour long.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
"What do people wear at FPC?" This is one of the most asked questions. First and foremost come as you are. But, if you're wondering how most people around here dress, it's pretty broad. At the traditional service, a lot of men wear khakis and a polo or button up shirt, and many also wear jackets. Ladies wear pants, skirts, and dresses. At the New Creation (Contemporary) service, men wear pants, jeans, polos, t-shirts, basically anything! Ladies wear jeans, pants, skirts, dresses.
We encourage you to dress in whatever way makes you feel comfortable. Most importantly though we look forward to seeing you, not what you're wearing!
WILL I NEED TO SAY, SIGN OR GIVE ANYTHING?
We believe that God has welcomed sinners like us, we want you to feel as welcome as possible. The order of worship is printed in the bulletin you receive when you enter and gives all the information you need to follow along and to participate as you feel comfortable. We ask you to sign our friendship pad (found in the pew in the Sanctuary and by the door in the Commons) to help us greet you by name at the end of the service.
An offering is taken in every service because the finances of the church are the responsibility of the church members. If you do not wish to contribute, just let the offering pass by.
WHAT ABOUT MY CHILDREN - DO THEY COME INTO THE SERVICE WITH ME OR IS THERE SOMETHING GOING ON FOR THEM?
Children are welcome in the worship service. There is a nursery for babies at all services. The David Room is located off the Narthex and is available for parents with infants and toddlers to follow the service via a TV monitor. Children are welcome to walk around in the New Creation service in the Commons. We also have a wonderful children’s ministry here. We offer a Children’s Worship program in which the children (Kindergarten through 3rd grade) leave part way through the service to continue spending time in God’s Word at an age appropriate level.
